These days, the majority of us will not even step outside our front door without our mobile phone, but you know that the one time you go out without your phone, or the one day that it runs out of charge is the day that you will need it to call for help. Of course, it is a good idea to keep a spare mobile phone charger lead in your car, but these generally run through the ignition, and if you can’t turn your ignition on for whatever reason, you can’t charge it, and you are stuck. Having a portable phone charger in your glovebox is a good idea as is having an old phone, preferably with a working SIM card and some credit, although even without these, you can use it to call the emergency services. Dress your children warmly and send them outside to play. Children need plenty of fresh air and physical activity, especially in the winter. If you are not too busy, bundle yourself up and go outside to make some snow angels and snow forts together for some family fun.
3. Camps
Many local organizations and daycare centers run camps during the winter time to provide children with fun places to go while their parents are at work. Many of these organizations have enrollment requirements and may charge a nominal fee.
4. Quality Time
If you work when your children are in school, chances are you and your children are often too busy to visit any close friends and relatives. Schedule some time off work during the winter and take your children to visit some of your close friends and family that live nearby.
5. Movie Time
Find out which movies are playing at the local theater that your children may want to see and go on a family movie date. If you can’t afford to go to the theater, schedule some movie time at home. Pick out your favorite movies, grab a few pillows and snacks, and press play.
6. Field Trips
If you live in or near a large city, take your children on field trips around town to visit different attractions such as museums, art exhibits, and activity centers. Give your children a taste of what their city has to offer and help them to gain a better appreciation for where they live.
7. Arts and Crafts
Get your children’s creative juices flowing with some arts and crafts. Pick a theme and come up with different ideas that you know will keep them busy and happy, such as making snowflakes, painting using watercolor paints, such as this set from Nova Natural, sculpting, or making homemade play dough and paper mache.
8. Experiments

It seems like there’s always something to worry about when having 4 kids…keeping my home safe shouldn’t be one of them. Cleaning your home is something that happens daily. With four boys, keeping the house clean is a major chore. I thought I was doing ok, until Dyson sent my their newest upright the Dyson Light Ball.
I have Dyson stick vac that I absolutely LOVE, but it’s not made to clean the whole floor or keep up with my boys. So we mostly use another upright that we got several years ago, and I thought It was doing the job. I was excited to get the new Dyson light ball upright to see if it’s up to the challenge of keeping up with my boys.
First off, let me say it isn’t very light, like you would expect being a “Light-Ball”, and might be a little hard to push for weaker people like my grandmother, there is no way she could use this vacuum.
Everything pieced together nicely including the attachments which sit on the side of it rather than the back like most vacuums. There is no switch to tilt the vacuum, you just simply pull it back and it clicks from its upright position and back easily. I love the feature that I can turn on and off the brush so I can seamlessly go from carpet to hard floors no problem and I didn’t lose any suction because of the Radial Root Cyclone™ technology that is designed to maximize power. A mesh shroud helps separate large debris, with inner cyclones generating powerful centrifugal forces. Every angle of each airway is honed to ensure microscopic particles like pollen and mold are separated from the airflow..
I vacuumed the floor & the Dyson Light Ball was able to pick up dust and crumbs that apparently my other vacuum left behind. Emptying the container was just as easy, one button release, then use the same button over the trashcan to release contents into trash.
Overall I’m very pleased with this vacuum and WOULD recommend to friends and family looking for an easy to use vacuum that can keep up with even the toughest little messes.
