Talking with talent is always a highlight, you get to hear all the juicy behind the scenes gossip and their feelings on the film. During the Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tells No Tales press junket we interviewed the talented Javier Bardem about his role as Captain Salazar & a little about the first time he met Johnny Depp…you don’t want to miss that story!
Let’s jump right into the Q & A session with Javier!
Q. I want to know how long it took you to get makeup every day & How was it talking through the black goo coming out of your mouth?
A. It took Javier Three hours to get into makeup…“The goo was a liquid. They told me it was supposed to be like chocolate, chocolate my ass. That taste worse than that and they were supposed to put it on the teeth. I said give me that, so I drunk it and then I went to play the first scene, I think it was with Geoffrey Rush and it starts to pour out of my mouth and he was very disgusted.”

“I thought it was like rage pouring out. It’s not blood. It’s like the rage of the character coming out, like something more physical, like a bull. I’d always thought the character was like a bull, like a wounded bull with the blood and moving like it’s wounded and breathing like it’s out of breath and with a very strong idea for revenge.”
Q. With all that makeup packed on your face and really intense emotions during the film, was it difficult to portray the emotions through all of that makeup?
A. “That was one of my concerns to see if my facial expression can go through the mask, but these guys won the Oscar for “Mad Max”, and they did an amazing job. Once I had the mask on the face, I realized that I could express myself through it, which is important.”
Q. How did you become involved in the project?
A. “I got involved back then, 2010, because Penelope was shooting “Pirates 4″ so I went to the set in Hawaii, a beautiful place and I was very envious. I was very jealous because I was seeing all this amazing production taking place, the water, the special effects, the boat, the sword fighting. I wanted to be one of those. So, I said to Jerry, Jerry please, give me a job. He called me five years after and I was so surprised and honored because as a movie goer, I love the franchise.”

“I thought it was this great thing about one same character played in two ways, he’s alive and it’s all about pride and it’s all about honor and when he’s dead he’s all about betrayal and pain and revenge.”
Q. Whenever you saw yourself, like after all the CGI was put in, I mean the finished project is absolutely amazing, can you tell us about what that was like?
A. Because I was working a little bit on the darkness with the hair, they showed me some pictures and videos and it was like yeah, right, looks great but how is it going to look like at the end. The floating hair was an idea that the directors brought and I thought okay, but what do you mean, floating hair, like a troll? Then little by little, they were bringing all these drawings and concepts and I was amazed by it.
When asked if he pulled any inspiration from other villains he’s played his answer was a surprising NO! He was actually inspired by the idea of a wounded animal (a bull) because in those times the Spanish army was very powerful in the seas and the captains were all from the south of Spain where the flamingo & bullfighting culture belongs.

The headband and hairband…I really never felt like doing my hair! And keeping it out of my face was so nice!

Disney Infinity has brought many hours of fun to our home over the years, so when I heard that 3.0 was going to include Star Wars I was over the moon! I was able to learn more about what would be included and play with it a little at D23 Expo in August & I couldn’t wait to get my hands on one of my own! Thankfully Disney sent me a starter set and a few figures a few weeks ago so that I can share my Disney Infinity 3.0 Review with you, so lets get started!
What is Disney Infinity?
Disney Infinity 3.0 is an action-adventure sandbox video game. Heroes and villains. Sorcerers and Super Heroes. Princesses and pirates. For generations Disney, Disney•Pixar, MARVEL and Star Wars™ storytelling has sparked our imaginations with characters and worlds of magic, action, and adventure. Now, Disney Infinity invites you and your family to enter those worlds and game experiences where you can put your imagination to play.
Disney Infinity supports a range of figurines — in this case Marvel and Disney Originals characters. Players place them on a USB peripheral called the Infinity Base to bring the characters into the game. Players can expand their game by buying additional characters, Play-Sets, and temporary upgrades called Power Discs.

Of course like other Infinities, other character figures are sold separately and in play sets. You can also purchase power disks which you use to modify Disney Infinity Play Set gameplay and modify or customize Toy Box worlds.
Disney Interactive and Lucasfilm launched Star Wars™ Rise Against the Empire for Disney Infinity 3.0 Edition, a new Play Set that takes place during the original Star Wars trilogy. This set includes the Play Set piece, Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia Organa figures.
In the Star Wars Rise Against the Empire Play Set, players will embark on galaxy-spanning missions with legendary Jedi Luke Skywalker, Rebel leader Princess Leia Organa, heroic smuggler Han Solo and his trusty co-pilot Chewbacca to help defeat Darth Vader and overthrow the evil Galactic Empire. With non-stop action, players can explore open world planets like Tatooine on foot or on a Bantha, take down AT-AT walkers on snowspeeders on Hoth, out-maneuver stormtroopers on speeder bikes on Endor, and partake in epic space battles in an X-wing in attempt to destroy the Death Star.

Game Play
You have a set of main story missions which will take you across the planet levels and a ton of optional side missions. Completing them will net you one to three stars depending on the length and difficulty of each. Unlike previous versions of the game, you don’t have to collect ten coins to unlock a character, you just need one.
Like in previous versions you will need to collect sparks. Collecting Orange Sparks will level up your character allowing you to upgrade them using the new Skill Tree. Broken into different sections, the Skill Tree is now a lot easier to use. The Blue Sparks are the in-game currency and they’re used to purchase anything and everything from the Toy Box. This is all the stuff you use to create your own levels or decorate your own space in the My INterior section. Everything from buildings, to terrain, to decorations and vehicles is available here and it’ll take a lot of time to gather enough Blue Sparks to buy it all. Trust me I tried so hard in 2.0 and still couldn’t buy it all!
The My INterior section is where you can design your own “house” with as many rooms and decorations as you want. This is one of my favorite parts of the “Toy Box”!! I love creating themed rooms! My favorite from my 2.0 were my “Nightmare Before Christmas” & Beauty & The Beast” rooms! In 3.0 you’ll be able to add special sidekick rooms which will unlock some nice bonuses.
The hosts will give you a series of missions which will explain a lot of the game play. They’ll teach you all about vehicles, combat, exploration, creation, and more. You’ll be able to jump into themed levels, Pirates of the Caribbean, Marvel, Star Wars, and more, fighting off enemies on your way to a boss battle at the end of each level. There are collectibles to be found and sidekicks to unlock.
In 3.0 each character play is entirely unique in their style and approach. Whereas before, it tended to feel very similar between characters, everyone now has a distinct style and skill tree now.
The other big section of the Toy Box Hub is the Main Street area which is modeled after the one in the Disney parks. You can enter Flynn’s arcade from here to partake in some online multiplayer games, or head into El Capitan theater where you can watch the latest episode of Toy Box TV.
You’ll also find three doors to a themed Hall of Heroes for each version of the game. The original Disney Infinity one is set in a garden, Marvel is set in the helicarrier command center, and Star Wars is set in the ceremony room from the end of A New Hope. Each will unlock statues of your owned characters as you level them up.
Be sure to spend some time in the Hub getting to know more about the game. Presents will randomly appear the longer you’re there. These are always something from the Toy Stores so it becomes one less thing you’d need to buy with the Blue Sparks you spend so much time collecting.
Overall Thoughts
This is a fun game that the whole family can enjoy. The boys absolutely love playing and we are all thrilled that we can play as our favorite Star Wars, Marvel & Disney characters!! If you love video games and letting your imagination run wild while playing as your favorite character, then this is the game for you! It’s set up for hours of fun and adventure with your imagination. Now the pieces can get a little pricey so I suggest waiting for the holiday sales and search for the best deals.

I was always a IOS person, I had an android phone in the past and absolutely hated it…I had an iPod touch that I loved until my hubby bought me an iPad, and I was completely happy for 2 years, that is until I received my Samsung Tab S this past Christmas.
I confess, I didn’t want to love it, but I did what I was supposed to do and review it for you guys (you can find that here). Well after two weeks of use, I gave up my iPad for the Samsung Tab S, I was over it and here is why
Customizability. I love organizing, and while on IOS you can create folders & maybe make a page for certain things, with the Samsung Tab S & Android its so much more! Widgets, folders, and you don’t even have to see every app you have if you don’t want to! My front page has my most used apps, while the page to the right contains the weather widget & my library widget, easy to flip over and look at the weather or access my reading materials. Then my left page consists of my calendar, office, and email. I love the clean look and easy access to my everyday apps.
Usefullness. When I received the Samsung Tab S there were several offers for FREE apps including Hancom Office, Scrapbook, S Note and many others. Hancome office comes with HWord, HCell (spreadsheet) & HShow (presentation). Scrapbook is great for organizing webpages, photos & screenshots…& the S Note is great for, well taking Notes, with keyboard or handwriting. Plus you can do two things at once with Multi-window, like watch a music video and look up the lyrics or read an email and edit a presentation. Opening two windows or apps at the same time gives you the ability multitask and get things done faster than ever before. Then there is the Ultra Power Saving Mode that keeps you connected even when your battery is critically low. It works by turning your screen to black and white and shuts off nonessential apps, so your device still works when you need it most. I haven’t had to use it yet, but you never know!
Portability. Like i said I had the iPad for 2 years prior, and yes I tote it with me..if you’ve ever carried one with you, it’s fairly heavy, I know they’ve come out with an air, I bought one for my grandmother…but I can literally pick up the Samsung Tab S with two fingers and hold it in one hand (comes in handy when your multi tasking). It fits comfortably in my purse and being less than 1lb it doesn’t add a noticeable weight to my purse.
Family Friendly. Yes, I share my tablet with my kiddos. With Multi User Mode, everyone in the family can create a private and personalized tablet experience that can be secured with the fingerprint scanner. And for those wanting to keep the little ones entertained, Kids Mode lets you customize playtime and apps with parental controls. I love all the learning apps that are available now days, and my little guy loves watching his shows whenever he likes. Unlike the IOS, Samsung has a designated “app” that collects all the apps you choose to have for your child and password protects the home button so there is no way they can get into your stuff. It gives me piece of mind when he’s on there that he’s not facebooking someone or emailing a pr rep. some gibberish.
I know some people are die-hard IOS fans, I used to think I was one. We still have the iPad and an iPad mini that my husband and the kids use. For now I’m extremely happy with my Samsung Tab S 8.4.
