Are you ready for some football?! I know we are! January is always a big month around our house with all the playoff games and the Super Bowl…This year is even bigger with Super Bowl 50! Game day food is a major part of watching a game in our house, with 4 boys and my husband, I have to have plenty to go around and something for everyone…this includes drinks. While the men enjoy their beer and the boys some mocktails..I enjoy my cocktails.
With Super Bowl 50 I had to come up with something that’s going to be just as exciting. Why not take my guests back to when the players played on real fields and got dirty?! That’s how I came up with this years cocktail “Play Dirty” a Chocolate Salted Caramel Martini with chocolate football garnish.
I knew I could pick up a lot of what I needed at my local World Market…so that’s where I headed first to pick up a few things I knew I would need.
To create this delicious cocktail for your own party you will need:
Drizzle some of the caramel sauce into your glass in a swirled design…then place into freezer until you are ready to pour your drinks. I used these stemless martini glasses that I absolutely love!
Lets create the football chocolate garnish
You’ll want to create a template from something like an index card, as paper will be to thin ( I used photo paper ). I used a mini football that I found at a party store to create my template, i just placed the football onto my photo paper and traced the edges then cut out my templete. Place your template diaginally onto your Ghirardelli chocolate ( I choose the Milk Chocolate Sea Salt Brownie because it has the sea salt flavor and would hold together better than a caramel filled ) & make a small score along the edge of your template. You don’t want to cut all the way through right away this will cause your chocolate to crack and break. Once you have your score, you can slowly start to cut deeper and deeper until you have your shape cut out. If you do it slowly you wont have any issues with breakage. After you get your shape cut out you’ll want to cut out a notch so that you can place it on your glass. After trial and error, just a small cut in the center of the football is best.
Now let’s create your game day drink:
Place 1 cup ice into shaker
Pour in
3 oz Torani Salted Drink Mixer
1.5 oz Chocolate Liquor
1.5 oz Vodka
Shake then strain into glass
Garnish with Football Shaped Chocolate

This was really cool and I wanted to share the news! Khan Academy just launched Pixar in a Box, a behind-the-scenes look at Pixar Animation Studios’ creative process. It’s a Free online curriculum that shows how Pixar filmmakers use science, technology, engineering, art and math to create movie magic.
Through a series of video lessons, interactive exercises, and hands-on activities, students will discover how the academic concepts they learn in school enable Pixar filmmakers to create new worlds, animate unique characters and tell stories through animation. Although designed especially for students in middle and high school, these resources are available to learners of all ages, completely free of charge.
“Our mission at Khan Academy is a free, world-class education for anyone, anywhere,” said Sal Khan, Founder and CEO of the not-for-profit Khan Academy. “Sparking student interest in math and other academic fields is a key part of that, and we’re delighted to collaborate with Pixar to achieve this goal. Pixar in a Box gives students a new way to engage with key academic concepts and see how creative these concepts can be.”
Khan and Catmull officially unveiled Pixar in a Box at a special event yesterday evening on the Pixar campus in Emeryville, CA. After an introduction from Klaidman, local educators learned the story behind the project and then received a live demonstration of Pixar in a Box from two of its creators – Brit Cruise, Content Producer at Khan Academy, and Tony DeRose, Senior Scientist and Research Group Lead at Pixar. The evening concluded with a question-and-answer session moderated by Klaidman.
“Many students start to lose interest in academics in middle and high school, partly because they don’t see how academic concepts relate to things they care about,” said DeRose. “Pixar in a Box aims to address this disconnect by showing how Pixar filmmakers use these concepts for creative benefit in their everyday work.”
Starting today, students can access Pixar in a Box and learn:
· How combinatorics are used to create crowds, like the swarm of robots in WALLŸE.
· How parabolas are used to model environments, like the forest in Brave.
· How weighted averages are used to create characters, like Buzz Lightyear and Woody.
· How linear and cubic interpolation are used to animate characters.
· How trigonometry is used to create the worlds in which Pixar stories take place.
· How simultaneous equations are used to paint all of Pixar’s images.
“These lessons are the first phase of the project,” said Cruise. “While the first year focuses on math, future Pixar in a Box lessons will explore science, computer science, arts, and humanities.”
